"Your Word is a light unto my feet and a lamp unto my path." Psalm 119:105

Hello and welcome! I'm a former elementary music educator, turned mom and home educator for more than 15 years. I have a passion for teaching, singing, and encouraging others along the way! Although I began blogging as a way to create a journal of our home education journey, I enjoy writing about a variety of topics related to home education, family, friends, and faith. I hope you enjoy journeying along with us!

The Homeschool Mother's Journal - August 5, 2011

Please join me at "The Homeschool Mother's Journal" for this week's Blog Hop!

In my life this week...
My husband's leg injury is healing and physical therapy is making a world of difference!  His leg is still getting sore and swelling after he is on it all day, but he is walking with a more normal gait.

After the big drainage system was put in our basement last week, this week was clean-up time!  Wow! What a lot of dust was on the floor and walls, even though all the furniture had been covered twice with heavy plastic.  We have been mopping, dusting, sweeping, and vacuuming.  Then we got fresh paint and gave all of the walls a new coat of paint and added a dark, chocolate colored accent wall that will behind the TV.  The paint on the rest of the walls is a slightly lighter shade of beige than before to brighten things up!

In our homeschool this week…
Although we can't complete the flooring, yet, while the cement is curing, we put the old floor tiles on most of the basement floor and I put the school area back together.  I was feeling panicky with it being in disarray while I am trying to also get prepared for the school year.  All of our neighborhood friends go back to school next Thursday, so we are getting ready to begin, but probably not until August 15th or 16th.

My favorite thing this week was…
Holding our friend's newborn baby while visiting with them at the hospital!  Little Kadence Faith was born on Thursday to our friend and piano teacher, Amy and her husband Mark.  Somehow about a week before her birth I correctly guessed her name (which they were keeping a secret, but gave me a special clue) and the date of her birth!  It is so precious to hold such a new life!

Things I’m working on…
The Basement!
Wet cement covered the new drain system under the floor

Everything was covered in dust!
Painting the basement walls was a family project

  1. Holding a new baby is such a blessing. Since mine have grown, babies always seem so light to me now. Your basement transformation sounds inviting, with chocolate colored walls. Thanks for visiting my blog.
