"Your Word is a light unto my feet and a lamp unto my path." Psalm 119:105

Hello and welcome! I'm a former elementary music educator, turned mom and home educator for more than 15 years. I have a passion for teaching, singing, and encouraging others along the way! Although I began blogging as a way to create a journal of our home education journey, I enjoy writing about a variety of topics related to home education, family, friends, and faith. I hope you enjoy journeying along with us!

Homeschool Mother's Journal - June 13, 2011

In my life this week…
D and I celebrated 16 years of marriage on June 10!  Wow, how time flies! I am thankful for such a great man, friend, husband, and father to our children.  We bought ourselves a new camera before the trip and used it to take these photos.

R & D, Lake Norris, TN

Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
VACATION!!!  We had a fantastic time with extended family while visiting Lake Norris in Tennessee.  It was a great break and a fun way to kick off our summer!  We stayed in a rented home on the lake with my in-laws and my husband's brother's family.
Cousins!
D and his mama

My favorite thing this week was…
Time with my husband and learning to surf!  I have water skiied since I was a young teen, but I just tried surfing behind a boat last week - and it was fun, too!  I also had a great time using our new camera to take some photos of the water sports action!

D on the slalom ski
B water skis, too!
Things I’m working on…
Today I am unpacking, doing laundry, and getting caught up on normal things.  Tomorrow, or even this afternoon, I need to start tackling my summer to-do list which includes closets!  Aaaagh!  They need help.  Re-organizing and de-cluttering are things I try to get done during the summer when we don't have hours ot school each day.  I think bedroom closets will be first.

I’m reading…
I am not quite done reading Karen Kingsbury's "Leaving" book, the first book in the her new Baily Flanigan series.  The second book in the series comes out in about two weeks, so I need to wrap this one up!
A really beautiful sunset on the lake

I’m praying for…
My husband's last three weeks in his office practice, before he transitions to being full-time at the hospital.  I am praying for guidance in selecting materials for our next school year.  I am also praying for baby Julia, who is at Riley Children's Hospital right now.  Her parents are friends of ours here in town and she had to go there last week and is still on a ventilator after her heart rate would not normalize.  She is not even a month old, please join me in prayer for Julia and her family during this scary time!

Questions/thoughts I have…
How do you train your children to do new chores during the summer?  If you use an allowance or reward system, how does it work for you?

A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
Everybody's going surfing!  Surfing USA!
This is me surfing for the first time!
