In my life this week…
We returned almost two weeks ago from our family vacation at Norris Lake, Tennessee. I had catching up of laundry, paying bills, telephone calls, appointments to be made, cleaning, and going through mail. After all of that, I still feel like I have been doing things around the house that have just been left un-done for awhile. My husband and I cleaned out the garage and it feels like a garage makeover! Aaaah! And then came the heat wave!! We saw my car temperature read 113 degrees once this week! Yes it's been a hot week and we are thankful for neighbors with swimming pools!
In our homeschool this week…
Catching up from the last two weeks... my son spent some quality time with my nephew who stayed here for two nights while my daughter had a blast at Gymnastics Camp last week. When I saw B practicing her gymnastics skills at camp, I could see a huge improvement from where she was when she began classes about 6 months ago. She was sad when the camp was over, but had some really cute crafts, including a tie dye T-shirt to keep as souvenirs. This week, she attended Art Camp, which has been her favorite week of the summer for several years. She loves making all kinds of crazy crafts and art projects there! I am sure we will receive a nice stack of them today. Her art teacher told me that she works so well with all of the other children there, too. It is wonderful to hear good things from others about our children! With such hot weather, we went swimming almost every afternoon since our neighbors invited us to user their pool while they were away on a vacation!
I also received the long-awaited Stanford standardized test results while we were away on vacation. I am glad that we did the testing because I can see successes, as well as some areas where a change of curriculum may be needed for next year. More than anything this test was excellent practice for my children to learn the skills of test taking and overall they did well on the testing, better than they thought they were doing at the time. The testing gave me the peace of mind that they are learning and I think it will give them more confidence in their abilities.
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
During our vacation with extended family at Norris Lake, Tennessee we spent lots of quality family time together on the boat, on the deck, watching movies, cooking meals together, and even traveling together. We relaxed, but were ready to come back home!
I am reading ...
While away on vacation we had no internet, cell phone, or e-mail coverage! It was actually a nice break for me and I finished reading The Help! I enjoyed reading this humorous, yet poignant book that transported me to a different time and gave me various perspectives on the civil rights movement in the 1960's. I hope to see the movie soon, too.
I am also enjoying my Proverbs 31 Bible study discussion group! I won a copy of Do Hard Things by Alex and Brett Harris earlier in the month at my CC Practicum. I am about halfway through reading this exciting book about our current generation of young adults and their potential if they challenge themselves by not always taking the "easy" path, but by doing hard things.
I am working on...
I am still looking at some ideas for curriculum in a few areas that we have not yet decided upon. I have also been looking over my notes from my Practicum for tutoring Essentials next year and thinking about plans for that. I need to finish putting together the kids' school binders from this school year and plan our End of the School Year Celebration and open house for my parents to come and enjoy with us. I also have more rooms to tackle with my summer home organization list!!
I am grateful for...
My favorite thing this week was…
Celebrating my real 39th birthday! We went to my favorite sushi restaurant AND had yummy frozen custard that night! Then over the weekend my mom and my sister and her kids were able to enjoy time with us on our boat in honor of my birthday. I love my family!
A photo, video, or link to share...
I found this on the Good Morning Girls facebook page and it is a great reminder of just how much God really loves each one of us!
Hop on over to the Hip Homeschool Hop or The Homeschool Mother's Journal and Weekly Wrap-up. Have a great week!Rachel
