"And the light shineth in the darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not." John 1:5
This was our memory verse for school last week! How fitting! You see, we had a fun time on Halloween, but we were more importantly shining the Light. We have a great neighborhood for trick-or-treating at the doors of people we really know, walking around on sidewalks that any other day of the year are just more quiet. However, many other families come to our neighborhood to collect candy on Oct. 31 that never walk these streets the rest of the year and last year we decided to do something with that opportunity. We made little cards to pass out with the candy in our big bowl at the front door. These were no ordinary cards, they were to shine light into the darkness of this day. We handed out little pieces of cardstock that say, "Jesus loves YOU!" with a pumpkin beside the message. Check my post from last year, "Jesus Loves All the Little Pumpkins" to read more about that project and to see the photos. We still had enough cards left from last year to hand out many more this Monday evening!
We also spent time with my both of my sisters and their families. One of my sisters and her family went trick-or-treating with us, while my hubby stayed to hand out candy and cards at our front door. My other sister and her family drive over an hour to see grandparents, cousins, aunts, and uncles. We enjoyed a visit with them after the trick-or-treating was over and everyone took turns holding the 3 month old little "punkin"!
Halloween is not a huge emphasis at our home and we definitely don't even entertain the dark, scary, and the evil things of this day. However, we used this opportunity of the one day each year when hundreds of strangers come to our door to share something eternal with them. God will use it as He wishes. I hope that these are seeds planted in the hearts of many that will one day come to follow our King!

Hello and welcome! I'm a former elementary music educator, turned mom and home educator for more than 15 years. I have a passion for teaching, singing, and encouraging others along the way! Although I began blogging as a way to create a journal of our home education journey, I enjoy writing about a variety of topics related to home education, family, friends, and faith. I hope you enjoy journeying along with us!
