Homeschool Update, April, 2017

April, 2017

April brought more sunny warm days, actually some in the 80's and gave us a tease of summer! We also had cloudy, windy, sometimes stormy days. We enjoyed traveling to Florida for our spring break and had some great family time and fun there! We also celebrated Easter with our church family and then lunch at my sister's home. The kids had an egg hunt and played basketball outside. Now, our yard is freshly mowed, edged, and mulched and ready for spring. Our cabin in the country is also almost complete after almost a year of construction! We have much to be thankful for.

In our homeschool, we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel with just about a month left before summer! Here are some highlights from our educational journey in April.

• J and I read Hudson Taylor's Spiritual Secret and learned about the life of this great missionary to China who had a huge impact on the Asian continent for missions and bringing many millions to Christ.
• I cried when we read about Samuel Crowther, a South African native who was captured, sold into slavery, separated from his mother, and after being freed, educated, and becoming a minister, he was eventually reunited with his mother and he led her to Christ! It was a beautiful story. We have both learned so much through the World History & Literature program from My Father's World this year.
• J wrote a descriptive essay about our Golden Retriever, Cody that captured his personality
• J wrapped up his Physical Therapy for his back injury today and has felt like it has improved. It has not been as sore recently and he has learned more stretching techniques and gotten into better habits of stretching. I think that will help.
• He is doing really well in his Algebra lessons right now and is catching onto polynomials easily. 

• B is preparing a couple of pieces for a private piano recital for family in May
• She has been reading Bulfinch's Greek & Roman Mythology and we have laughed at the ridiculousness of some of the stories!
• She has read Judges, Joshua, Ruth, and is now on 1 Samuel
• We had all enjoyed some fun science experiments with electricity and magnetism for Physical Science, with the static electricity of balloons and trying not to burn our thumbs with a battery and aluminum foil circuit!
• B is also working through a Spanish book called Breaking the Barrier and I think she is enjoying it

I was looking into online writing classes for next year and I stumbled across Brave Writer and Julie Bogart. I have been so uplifted and encouraged by her youtube videos and articles! I am learning to be a "Brave Schooler" and loving it! There is more to share another time.
