"Your Word is a light unto my feet and a lamp unto my path." Psalm 119:105

Hello and welcome! I'm a former elementary music educator, turned mom and home educator for more than 15 years. I have a passion for teaching, singing, and encouraging others along the way! Although I began blogging as a way to create a journal of our home education journey, I enjoy writing about a variety of topics related to home education, family, friends, and faith. I hope you enjoy journeying along with us!

Highlights from Weeks 1-4 of CtG

I'm getting this posted a couple of weeks after the fact, but now it is ready.

Highlights from Weeks 1-4 of Creation to the Greeks:

Week 1:
  • Revisiting the story of creation in Genesis and reading from Dinosaurs of Eden
  • Making Challah and celebrating a Sabbath meal as a family while we learn about the Biblical Jewish feasts (I have a cute photo from this that I am still trying to upload from my phone camera - no luck, yet!)

Week 2:
  • Memory verse 2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."
  • Reading some creation myths from other cultures and talking about similarities to the truth of God's Word
  • Began learning about Vivaldi
  • Began reading  The Tanglewoods' Secret and talked more about Adam and Eve, Cain and Abel, and Noah

Week 3:
  • Early Biblical history after Noah's time and the Tower of Babel, how people spread out around the world after that
  • Mesopotamia & trying our hand at cuneiform letters in cookie dough!
  • Rosh Hashanah celebration with a meal, apples dipped in honey, a special honey loaf cake, & birthday party horn "shofars".
  • Trying to burn paper through a magnifying glass using the sun's light - didn't work with white paper, but may have done some damage to a small, green leaf

Honey Loaf
Cuneiform cookie dough project!

Our Rosh Hashanah celebration

We have also learned 3 new Greek words for our vocabulary study - sauros, biblos, & photos. We are getting in the swing of things with math, reading, writing, spelling, English.  The kids are beginning to use our Rosetta Stone Spanish program and we have the settings figured out.  We have reviewed the names of the books of the Old Testament. We will study more about ancient Egypt in the coming weeks.

Thanks for sharing a bit of your homeschool experience! You can find mine on www.hsdays.blogspot.com if you would like to visit. Many Blessings.
