| After studying the science of pyramids for a couple of weeks we went back to studying science in "Genesis for Kids". We began studying Air - something that God created on Day 2 of the creation week. We really enjoyed these experiments! |
Sticky note is attached inside the upside down cup |
|
The cups are placed upside down in the water |
|
The sticky note was still dry! Air takes up space! |
This experiment showed that air takes up space and does weigh something - how much, we were not able to tell exactly, but the drinking straw balance shows that one balloon weighed more than another.

| Who really has the most hot air?! |
In Week 7 we also reviewed all of the Books of the Old Testament with an index card activity. It took a few minutes, but the children worked together and placed them all in order!

J & B put the Books of the Old Testament in order |
|
This is all of the Books of the Old Testament! Whew! |
We have added in some art projects from the Artistic Pursuits Book 1 curriculum. This was an easy way to create an Egyptian Wall Mural. The children "plastered" the wall of the "tomb" with paper, then rubbed soft pastels onto string and had to work together to snap it and create lines, like a graph on the wall. Then B used the lines to create her own wall mural of a king, servant, and pyramid, complete with the hieroglyphic versions and their translations!
|
J & B learned how to make red chalk lines, like a graph, on the wall for the mural |
|
Here is B with her completed mural
In Week 6 we watched part of a really cool dvd called "Building the Great Pyramids" produced by BBC. It was very real, with actors portraying a story about a man who was taken to the pyramids to work, but had never seen them before. We saw him traveling by boat on the Nile, working in the rock quarry, and helping a team to slide the big rocks up a very long ramp towards the pyramid. We also saw him eating, sleeping, and just in his every day life. It was very informative! There are some really cool computer generated 3D views of how it is believed that the men worked on spiral ramps that went up to the top of the pyramid structures.
