In my life this week…The sun has been shining beautifully this week, creating some gorgeous, fall weather! The cool mornings have given way to warmer afternoons and evenings that are perfect for enjoying the outdoors! We are spending time outside while it is comfortable and sunny! Last weekend was packed with activities, including the Oktoberfest, Nutcracker rehearsals, and IU football game for the guys, and a 65th birthday celebration for my sweet mother-in-law!

In our homeschool this week…
We are fully immersed in the Revolutionary war era and have read about the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Paul Revere and the Revolutionary War. We had another week to add stylistic writing techniques to the paragraphs about Jamestown. B completed her reading of Felicity's Surprise and we enjoyed comparing the ways Christmas was celebrated in colonial Williamsburg with our own traditions. J completed reading Pocahontas and almost read Sam the Minuteman in one reading! They are cruising through their math right now. B just completed her lesson and test on the multiples of 5 and J completed division by 9. Skip counting the 7's and 8's this week in our CC memory work was more difficult, but we are working on it!
I am inspired by…
The music of Steven Curtis Chapman! See my blog post about his fantastic concert that we enjoyed last week. We are still dancing and singing his tunes around the house almost every day!
Places we’re going and people we’re seeing…
Oktoberfest is always a fun way to celebrate a new fall season and the month of October! We ate plenty of yummy, unhealthy food, visited with friends, the kids rode rides and made crafts, and we just enjoyed being outside on a crisp autumn weekend. B won a cake at the cakewalk and is now wearing a fashionable feather in her hair. Check out more photos of our Oktoberfest on this blog post.
This Friday J sang in a concert with his choir and we had a cookout complete with a pot of "stone soup" with friends from our Classical Conversations community.

A homeschool question / thought I have…
We played a fun round of The Scrambled States Game for the first time this week! It was a great way to review U.S. geography and learn some fun facts!
I’m cooking…
White chicken chili! It is time to break out the crockpot and have one of our favorites for supper.
I’m grateful for…
God's new creation each day! I am truly thankful this week as I watch the leaves changing into bright orange, red, and golden hues. We have been blessed with a week of clear, bright blue skies, sunshine, and temperatures in the 60's-low 80's. I am grateful for this beauty that surrounds us each day and how God continues to re-create it every day!
A photo, video, link, or quote to share…
B LOVES to spend time with her young friends from CC and I think they enjoy her, too!

Thanks for stopping by my blog! Have fun preparing for the Nutcracker. We love to go to watch it. Haven't done it in a few years, so maybe we'll try to go this year.
ReplyDeleteI bookmarked The Scrambled States Game on Amazon. We also like Sequence: States & Capitols edition.
